favorite zombie movie: Plague of the Zombies

favorite slasher movie: I don't really like slasher films. How about American Psycho. Or better yet, the giallos informed the American slasher film. So make that Suspiria instead.

favorite supernatural movie: The original Haunting or The Uninvited (it alternates)

favorite occult movie : Night of the Demon (not to be confused with Night of the Demons which is also good)

favorite vampire movie: I realized at this question that I don't own many vampire films. My thoughts on this are that vampire films are often so hokey. I guess The Lost Boys. It's hard to beat 80's bloodsuckers.

favorite character in a horror movie: This is a toughy. Julian Karswell from Night of the Demon springs immediately to mind. But so do Peter Cushing from the Hammer Dracula and Frankenstein franchises as well as Vincent Price from Masque of the Red Death.

favorite director in a horror movie: Mario Bava, hands down.

I'll post pics soon. I'm still kind of getting the hang of this place.

RETURN/LIVING DEAD sequel release update [11 Aug 2005|12:40pm]
_zombi
Fango got the first news on the specific details of the RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD sequels’ theatrical play from Freestyle Releasing, a division of Innovation Film Group. RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD 5: RAVE TO THE GRAVE (pictured) will be going out first (likely without the number in the title), opening October 7 in wide release in Chicago, Seattle, Detroit, Atlanta and Phoenix and limited release in New York and Los Angeles. RETURN 4: NECROPOLIS will go out shortly thereafter; how wide it goes (and an expansion of RAVE’s playdates) will depend on the box-office figures for RAVE’s initial release—so zombie fans will want to support RAVE in its opening weekend. Both movies star Peter Coyote and were directed by Ellory (EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS) Elkayem from screenplays by William Butler and Aaron Strongoni; you can see their official website here.

And while we’re talking indie genre dates, Regent Releasing slightly shifted its pair of upcoming fear features: the modern Countess Bathory pic ETERNAL will debut August 26 and the gay-themed slasher HELLBENT is now set for September 9. Magnolia Films, which had Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s PULSE set for August 12, will roll it out in November instead. And Dread Central reports that the slasher film starring WWE wrestler Kane (see previous item here), previously titled EYE SCREAM MAN and GOODNIGHT, is now called SEE NO EVIL (which oughta confuse people who’ll think it’s one more ’70s-horror remake) and is set for Lions Gate release in January or February 2006. —Michael Gingold

THE LIVING AND THE DEAD invade comics:

Speakeasy Comics has announced that it will release the original horror graphic novel THE LIVING AND THE DEAD in October. Written by busy Todd Livingston and Robert Tinnell, creators of THE BLACK FOREST and THE WICKED WEST, and drawn by Micah Farritor, the book is set in the 19th century and focuses on a doctor living a tranquil life with his loving family in the country—until a dark deed from his past manifests in the present, the the form of a vicious murderer. Only be revealing his terrible secret and risking losing his family can he stop the evil.

The 128-page book, which will have a cover price of $14.99, is currently previewed with an on-line trailer and the first 11 pages at www.thelivingandthedead.com. “It has become a tradition with us to create on-line trailers for our books,” Tinnell says. “I can’t quantify how well they work as sales tools, but they are a lot of fun to put together. We’re extra-lucky; not only does Andy Kubiszewski always jump up to deliver brilliant music—Andy was in Stabbing Westward among other bands and currently scores several television shows—but our letterer/art director, Mike Anderson, is pretty gifted with Flash. We wanted a trailer that played like one of those cool ones you’d see for foreign-language films—and boy, did he deliver.”

Livingston adds, “We’re particularly excited by David J. [HOLLYWOOD GOTHIC] Skal writing the afterword for the book! It’s a real honor and adds to the package immeasurably.”

Tinnell also has THE FACELESS: A TERRY SHARP STORY coming this month from Image; see Fango #246, on sale this month, for a Monster Invasion story. And check out this site tomorrow for more exciting Tinnell news! —Michael Gingold

[ mood | The creature stole my twinkie. ]

Scientists have created eerie zombie dogs, reanimating the canines after several hours of clinical death in attempts to develop suspended animation for humans.

US scientists have succeeded in reviving the dogs after three hours of clinical death, paving the way for trials on humans within years.

Pittsburgh’s Safar Centre for Resuscitation Research has developed a technique in which subject’s veins are drained of blood and filled with an ice-cold salt solution.

The animals are considered scientifically dead, as they stop breathing and have no heartbeat or brain activity. But three hours later, their blood is replaced and the zombie dogs are brought back to life with an electric shock.

Plans to test the technique on humans should be realised within a year…

(Thanks to W. Ellis)

ZOMBIE DOGS. AGAIN, I SAY...ZOMBIE FUCKING DOGS.
